In Balance Living offers the perfect blend of traditional therapy and a 12-step recovery approach. Residents engage in weekly individual therapy sessions as well as monthly family therapy sessions to address pressing and ongoing issues. Our therapists have experience with addiction, mental health and co-occurring disorders, family work, and several other issues that may be presented. Residents attend 21 intensive outpatient groups twice a week that focus on relapse prevention, education, and group and experiential therapy to promote a healthy and well-rounded recovery. In addition to therapy, each resident works closely with staff that have over 25 years combined experience in recovery and with the 12-step model. Residents are required to attend 90 meetings in 90 days and maintain a working relationship with a sponsor of their choosing. All of this is focused on the resident achieving and maintaining mental health and wellness; allowing them to continue in their quest for sober living. |
In Balance Living uses 12-step recovery methods to help the residents gain a sense of community, explore spiritual principals as a means to solve their problems, and gain a sense of absolute accountability for their actions. Using the 12-steps is a tried and true method to overcome drinking and drug abuse. All residents of the In Balance sober living community work regularly with a sponsor and are actively involved in the 12-step community. Tucson offers a strong recovery community; blending the experience, strength and hope of young and older members alike. The camaraderie among members provides our residents lasting friendships and support that transcends the walls of In Balance Living.

In Balance Living offers the opportunity to develop life skills necessary for independent, sober living. Group life skill sessions are held weekly to address specific needs and offer experience with a subject the community is having difficulty with or a subject the students express interest in learning more about. Our life skills sessions cover everything from how to enter a bank and open a checking account, how to balance and manage your finances, to how to shop for food at the local grocery store and prepare a meal in their own kitchens. Our students are given an opportunity to practice the game of life in a forgiving and understanding atmosphere that is preparing them to utilize the same skills necessary for success when they are playing the game on their own. Often times the challenge they are faced with is how to live and use basic life skills outside of a rigid structured environment that manages their time and their decisions. Transitional Living is often their first experience at participating in the work force or attending school sober. Our Life Skills program is designed to benefit our young people by preparing them for living with independence. We are committed to building a foundation for them to create whatever successful life they desire. These valuable lessons cover a wide range of real life scenarios that our young people experience while here at Transitional Living.

In Balance Living employs a community-based model of positive change called Positive Peer Culture. The principles of a Positive Peer Culture rely on natural instead of imposed consequences for inappropriate behavior. Through the process of experiencing natural consequences residents begin to find internal motivation for changing negative behaviors, empowering them to achieve success outside of a structured environment. Eventually, residents actively choose a positive lifestyle that enables a healthy transition from a sober living program to an independent adult life.

In Balance Living recognizes that a strong recovery includes wellness of body as well as mind. Accordingly, residents have access to a 24-hour workout facility that meets the needs of all fitness levels. Amenities include, but are not limited to, a weight room, cardio room, tennis courts, swimming pools, basketball courts, racquet ball, volleyball, and a variety of classes. Additionally, Tucson offers many opportunities for other activities including rock climbing, hiking, bicycling, and various intramural leagues.
Complementing the emphasis on physical fitness there is a strong focus on nutrition as vital to a well-rounded recovery. The residents are coached on their nutritional choices and learn to become cognizant of the detrimental impact that the wrong or excessive consumption of certain foods or drinks can have on the body.

In Balance Living strongly encourages each resident to find the path that best suits them in meeting their goals required for future aspirations. Whether that be completing their high school diploma, attending college, and/or obtaining employment, the staff at In Balance Living is dedicated to helping each resident find their measure of success.
In Balance Living is centrally located near the University of Arizona, Pima Community College and a variety of local establishments, providing for a convenient commute for residents who choose to attend college or obtain employment. If a high school diploma is what one is striving for, our program offers several options to meet each individual's educational needs. Additionally, if needed, we provide supervised study hours to ensure that each resident will be likely to succeed in school.

In Balance Living, along with 12-step programs, emphasis the importance and necessity of giving back to others in order to maintain one's own healthy recovery. Depending on the resident's interests, there are a variety of pre-established partnerships that In Balance Living has created with local non-profit organizations. Some of these organizations include the Humane Society, Arts for All, World Care and Mobile Meals. |
